Please ensure that the expiry date of your passport is more than 6 months after the end your session. Send us a copy of your passport together with your application for enrolment.
Kenya is visa free as of January 2024. However, all visitors are required to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before their travel date, except East African Community (EAC) passport holders.
The eTA costs $30.00
Please refer to Kenya’s Directorate of Immigration Services for more info on the eTA application process.
It is your responsibility to apply for the eTA. If you experience any challenges please contact us or the Kenyan High Commission closest to you. For applicants within the Australasia region, NSFSS will follow up the processing with the Kenyan High Commission in Canberra should there be need to.
Important: All students must register their presence in Kenya with their country’s embassies/high commissions, prior to departure.
The duration of our program is short, only 6 weeks. NSFSS and Pwani University expects all students enrolled in a particular session to start the program on the same day.
For the B2B program, NSFSS will organise a group flight from Australia to Kenya- students willing to travel on the group flights should get in-touch with the NSFSS admissions team as soon as their enrolled is confirmed. Students choosing to travel individually should plan to arrive at the Mombasa International airport atleast a day before the start of the session. Please share your travel itinerary with NSFSS admissions team as soon as you book your flight.
Students are advised to be prepared to spend extended learning periods in the field, both along the coast and inland. Please bring clothes and footwear which are fit for purpose.
Note that the coast region is one of the hottest areas in Kenya, with high humidity and hot temperatures making the weather pleasant at times. The region is warm to hot all year round.
Whatever you do, please do not forget to pack your jungle party outfit, safari boots, hats, and swimming costumes
Please see a complete packing list here.
NSFSS offers the best accommodation facilities of any study abroad program.
Security, health and safety are our greatest considerations in selecting students’ accommodation.
Students participating in the B2B program will be accommodated in a secure beach property sandwiched between the County Commissioner and Governor’s residences. These two are the senior most officials in the County. Their residences and surrounding areas have 24/7 top level security.
The property boasts of two restaurants, a gym, conference facilities, and air conditioned rooms.
Students are expected to share these facilities with other guests and special arrangements have been made to put students in a separate block within the property.
Please be prepared to share a room with another student.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at the restaurant. However, in most cases, students will be provided with packed lunch.
NSFSS staff will stay in the property to ensure students are looked after for the duration of their stay.
Cultural immersion is an important pillar of the NSFSS learning model
We aim to expose future leaders to practical socio-environmental and cultural realities which undermine sustainability in emerging economies.
NSFSS provides students with the opportunity to safely engage with local communities and immerse themselves in the country they are studying in.
Students will engage in voluntary activities such as, participating in community mangrove restoration programs, rehabilitation of riverine ecosystems, mentorship programmes and so on.
You will not only make a positive impact on the local community but this will also broaden your global perspectives on environmental issues, challenge preconceived notions and get encouraged to become more responsible and engaged citizens.
